Undated First Edition

A Double Story. FIRST EDITION. Dodd & Mead, Publishers, New York, [1875], 238pp. 16mo – 5”x 4.5”. Original Brown silk with black decoration in blind, gilt titles, all edges stained red. The title page is printed in red and black, and the text block has decorative heads, capitals, and tails throughout. The Head and Tail nicely repaired, otherwise a good solid copy.

Note: While this copy is undated, Publishers Weekly (No. 178) announced its publication on June 12, 1875. Also, a copy of this edition was originally purchased by the Sturgis Library, one of the oldest institutions in the United States, and bears its hand-numbered and hand-dated (July 27, 1875) bookplate, so we can assume the book was published before that date.
