The Works of George MacDonald

View Original

Unspoken Sermons

These thirty-six sermons are among MacDonald’s greatest works, and, outside of his spoken sermons, the clearest, most comprehensive articulation of his Christian faith. Series I was originally published in 1867 by Alexander Sirahan, London. Series II and III were originally published in 1885 and 1889 by Longmans, Green & Co., London.

Editions

RECOMMENDED

Available from Johannesen Printing & Publishing

Handbound cloth cover edition, comprising Series I, II, and III in one volume, type-copied to preserve the text of the original editions referenced above.

Available from WisePath Books

Hardbound Sunrise Centenary Editions and paperback versions; separate books for each of the three series.

Available from third parties through Amazon

Numerous inexpensive paperback editions are sold on Amazon, typically containing all three series in one volume; however, quality varies greatly, and readers are encouraged only to purchase editions where they can “Look Inside.” Some editions are missing all of the many italics indicated in the original, which, needless to say, have no small significance. In most cases, you will be able to page forward on the “Look Inside” to the second page of the first sermon, The Child in the Midst, which contains several italicized words.
