Carte de Visite of George MacDonald: Set of Two
1868 , HJ Whitlock, Birmingham. Generally decent condition, a few very minor surface flaws, a rare and impressive survivor after 151 years! MacDonald at 43 was arguably at the pinnacle of his writing powers, in his prime as it were! He was writing The Seaboard Parish and had just seen the 2nd edition of Dealings with the Fairies come off the press. Robert Falconer and Guild Court were serialized in magazines as well. A strong image! Excessively rare indeed!

1873, Napolean Sarony, NY. Generally decent condition, a couple minor flaws upon the photo surface, a rare and impressive survivor after 146 years! MacDonald was 48, his reputation in Britain already legendary. Gutta Percha Willie and The Vicar's Daughter were fresh off the London Press at this time. This carte de visite was created toward the end of his American Tour which lasted several months, exhausting and triumphant! A glorious image!   Excessively rare indeed!
